This bright, joyful, and hopeful song for the people of Kawasaki "Suki desu, Kawasaki. Ai no machi (I love Kawasaki. The city of love)" was created to commemorate Kawasaki City's 60th anniversary (in 1984), which is easy to hum for everyone, aiming to raise awareness of their hometown and strengthen solidarity through the shared song among the citizens so that we could use it to develop our new city.
The lyric was selected from public offering (156 entries in total) upon review by the selection committee of the city song which consisted of four review members including Mr. Taichi Yamada, and it was announced on November 3, 1984 (Culture Day).
The lyric was made by Ms. Yoshiko Higo, and the song was composed by Mr. Naozumi Yamamoto.
Today, it's popular widely as the melody of the city garbage trucks.
The song and the melody are contained in the CD "Onmachi Best Selection -Suki desu Kawasaki-" (1,500yen per CD) which contains totally 17 songs themed on Kawasaki, produced by "Ongaku-no-machi Kawasaki (the City of Music, Kawasaki)" Promotion Council.
