Upon returning from abroad, you are required to submit a notification of moving-in form if you have been residing in Japan for over a year.
1. Documents for Submission: Moving-In Notification (Notification of Resident Change)
2. Submission Deadline: Within 14 Days of Move
3. Submission Counter: Ward Residents Section of ward office or Branch Citizens' Center in your address.
4. Applicant: The person him/herself or the head of household (submission by any other party requires a letter of Attorney). Even if the person is a member of your family, if the registered head of household differs, then they must have a letter of Attorney.)
5. Submission Method: Submit directly at the counter.
6. Reception Time: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
7. Closed: Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, December 29 - January 3
8. Required Items:
(1) Passport (For all people moving)
The date of return noted on the corresponding passports will be confirmed at the reception counter.
When entering Japan using an automated gate at the airport, your passport is not stamped with the date of entry. Therefore, please have an entry inspector at the airport stamp your passport with the date of entry when you pass through the automated gate. Or bring an item that identifies your date of entry, such as the ticket stub from your return flight.
(2) Certificate of Family Register (All the family member or Individual) (It is not required, if your registered domicile is in Kawasaki city.)
(3) A copy of Certificate of Family Register that has your address history. (It is not required, if your registered domicile is in Kawasaki city.)
(4) If submitting via a proxy, a letter of Attorney and document verifying the identity of the proxy (license, passport, health insurance card, etc.) are required.
(5) Pension Book (For National Pension Enrollees)
*When necessary to contact other municipalities or institution, the procedure may require you to come back at a later date, and some certificates may be unable to be issued on the spot.
(6) For foreign residents, all the family members who are moving in, their Residence Card or Special Permanent Resident Certificate are required.
*If your Residence Card cannot verify your president residential status or period of stay, please bring your passport or certificate of status of residence.
9. Note
*Note that the residence of Japanese citizens living abroad who have temporarily returned to Japan is, in general, considered to be their overseas address, except in cases where they are spending over one year living back in Japan.
