This system provides benefits to children in families where the parents are divorced, deceased, or when the father/mother are not living on the same income.

A person who has an address in Japan and is parenting a child (a child who is between the date of his or her first March 31 after the date on which he or she reaches the age of 18, or a person who is under the age of 20 and has a disability of a degree specified by a Cabinet Order), or the father or mother of a child, is eligible.

1 Payment Requirements

・ Children of divorced parents.

・ Children with a deceased parent.

・ Parents with a child that has a disability as defined by the state.

・ Children with a parent who may or may not be alive.

・ Children who have not seen one of their parents for more than one year.

・ Children who are receiving legal protection from the court for domestic violence from one of the parents.

・ Children with a parent who has been imprisoned for more than one year.

・ Children who were born out of wedlock.

・ Children with a parent whose whereabouts are unknown. (orphans, etc.)

2 Benefit Amount: As of April 2022 (The benefit amount is revised based on yearly fluctuations in cost of living.)

(1) For One Child: 43,070 Yen Per Month (Between 43,060 Yen to 10,160 Yen Depending on Income)

(2) For Two Children: 10,170 Yen Per Month Added to the Above Amount (Between 10,160 Yen to 5,090 Yen Depending on Income)

(3) For Three or More Children:

Additional 6,100 Yen Starting with Third Child (Between 6,090 Yen to 3,050 Yen Depending on Income)

Depending on the income of the applicant or guardian, the amount of allowance may be partially suspended (reduced) or entirely suspended.

3 About the application

Application documents vary depending on the situation of the applicant, so please consult the Children and Family Section or District Health and Welfare Station of your ward before applying.

As a general rule, the payment will start from the month following the month of application.

If applications are delayed, retroactive payments will not be made, so please consult at the counter as soon as possible.
